Saichi "Immortal" Sugimoto, a veteran of the Russo-Japanese War, makes a modest living in the Hokkaido wilderness during the postwar gold rush in the early twentieth century. When he comes across a map that leads to a wealth in hidden Ainu gold, he embarks on a perilous journey to find it. But Sugimoto isn't the only one who wants the gold; everyone who hears about it is desperate to get their hands on it! Sugimoto will need all of his skills to survive the harsh circumstances of the northern wilderness, as well as dangerous criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers. To survive, Sugimoto will need all of his abilities and luck, as well as the assistance of an Ainu girl named Asirpa.

The manga's last arc began in July, and the manga's 28th volume was released on December 17 by Shueisha. On June 17, Shueisha will release the manga's 30th volume, and on July 19, the manga's 31st and final volume.

The manga was adapted into an anime series, with the first season premiering in April 2018. As the series aired in Japan, Crunchyroll streamed it with English subtitles, while Funimation streamed it with an English dub. In October of 2018, the second season premiered. The series was streamed live on Crunchyroll as it aired.
