The manga, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, one of two new Higurashi series manga, debuted in November 2021. While Seigo Tokiya's Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei: Hoshi Watashi-hen debuted in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine, Natsumi's Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei: Oni Okoshi-hen debuted on Gangan Online. On June 10, the first combined book volumes for both manga series were delivered. The kanji used for "Rei" is distinct from the kanji used in the When They Cry - Rei OAV series and is the kanji currently in use in Japan during the Reiwa era.

In October 2021, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Meguri (Higurashi: When They Cry - Meguri), a new manga by Tomato Akase, was released on Kadokawa's Young Ace Up service. A new solution arc for the Higurashi: When They Cry - GOU series is contained in the manga. The 24th and final episode of the Higurashi: When They Cry - GOU anime aired in March 2021 after the anime's launch in October 2020. The sequel to the anime, Higurashi: When They Cry - SOTSU, debuted in July 2021 and ran for 15 episodes.

On February 25, Asahi released a brand-new Higurashi franchise manga titled Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Oni in Futabasha's Monthly Action publication.
