Sega announced on Wednesday that Sonic Origins, a new collection of remastered Sonic the Hedgehog games, will be released on June 23 via Steam and Epic Games Store for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic CD will be included in the set. The studio released a trailer:
There will be normal and deluxe editions of the collection, as well as DLC and pre-order bonuses.
Classic and anniversary modes will be available, with the latter offering full-screen display and endless lives. Missions will award medallions that can be used to unlock extra material in the collection.
The game will be released on Sonic's birthday, June 23, the same day that the original Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Sega Genesis was released in North America.
Sonic Mania, the franchise's most recent main game, was released in August 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
For the holiday season of 2022, Sonic Frontiers, a new game in the franchise, will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
According to Box Office Mojo, the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sequel film from Paramount Pictures debuted in the United States on April 8 and grossed an estimated US$26.5 million on its first day. On August 19, the film will be released in Japan.
