In classroom artist news, Calling all chalkboard art masters, Kodansha is now holding a blackboard art competition to find the ultimate chalkboard artist. Participants are only able to choose between Attack on Titan and Quintessential Quintuplets. The contest started on October 21st and will run until November 11th
How’d it start?
In a interesting turn of events students from Salesio Gakuin Junior & Senior High School in Yokohama contacted Kodansha’s editorial department to share their chalk artwork of The Quintessential Quintuplets and requested their artwork be posted online. And in a lovely turn of fate not only did Kodansha post the students work they also decided to make a competition out of that small moment of fan outreach, The competition is open only to students however and the prizes are nothing to scoff at the winning artist of each division will win signed shikishi (illustated board) from either Hajime Isayama and Negi Haruba a Quo card loaded with 10,000 yen (about US$100), and a clear file. The winners will be featured both on the contest website and in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Chalk art is a unique art medium all its own and anime and game companies have hired artists to create these temporary works as part of promotional campaigns.
