Due to COVID-19, the 2nd Sword Art Online Progressive Film has been delayed.

The second movie in the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- anime film series, Kuraki Yyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk), has been delayed owing to COVID-19 development delays, according to the official website for the movie. The film's advance showing on August 24 has also been postponed.

A new release date will be announced on the website later. On September 10, the movie was supposed to premiere in Japan along with IMAX showings of the movie.

The cast will be back for the movie. Additionally, Ysuke Kobayashi will portray Morte, while Kaede Hondo will play Liten.

The Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series by Reki Kawahara is the inspiration for the anime. As an updated retelling of Kawahara's original Sword Art Online books, the novel series debuted in 2012. Floor by floor, the narrative follows Kirito as he makes his way through the floating Aincrad castle from the very beginning. The Sword Art Online: Progressive novel series and two manga adaptations are both being published in English by Yen Press.

The first anime movie in the project, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, debuted in Japan in October 2021 and dominated the box office in its first weekend.

More than 40 nations and territories saw the movie at its world premiere. In December 2021, Funimation broadcast the movie in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
