The first full trailer for the upcoming Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spin-off has been released, largely giving viewers a glimpse at a significant period of the protagonist Megumin's youth.

Between 2014 and 2015, three volumes of the light novel series Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! were published. A follow-up series started in 2016 and its second book was published in 2019.

Yuujiro Abe, who directed episodes of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War's first and second seasons, is in charge of directing the anime, with Kanasaki Takaomi, who directed KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!, serving as chief supervisor. Kouichi Kikuta, who created the characters for the KonoSuba anime, and Makoto Uezu, who composed the series' music, are two other returning names. The program's producer is Drive.

Megumin and Yunyun are reprised by Rie Takahashi and Aki Toyosaki respectively for the spin-off.
